Tonsley Tornados Summer Tour 2011

It was a day of many firsts:

  • The first unbeaten 50
  • The first time we have bowled a team out for under 100 runs
  • The first slip catch
  • The first time we have taken all our catches
  • The first time anyone has bowled a 13 ball over (I believe that the previous record holder was Jerry Salsby with 12)
  • The first wicket for Ed Irvin (in his life?)
  • The first time anyone has pleaded (out loud) for someone to take a catch
  • The first win in 4 years (and 6 games!)

Congratulations to all and thank you for making the journey to Staffordshire last weekend. For many of you it was an extraordinary commitment with Robbo delaying his return to the USA and Rupes flying in from Germany. I hope it is was worth it and, win aside, I am sorry that the cricket didn’t last a little longer so that you could wring a little more out of it.

The evening was great. Once again the bouncers in Granvilles lost the plot over the Tonsley Events Brass section, but it was still nice to see the trombone on the dance floor even if it didn’t quite make it onto the stage this year. Dutts would be so proud to know that the (now) traditional tipple of Tequila, followed by a jagar bomber followed by beer was taken to a whole new level to include a couple of brain haemorrhages shorts as well. Lovely combo.

Good work to one and all. You were first class.
