South Africa
2002
The
Tonsley visit to South Africa took in a whistle stop and no-time-to-stop tour
of the southern tip of Africa. The three travellers, Woolfy, Joe and Bee flew
to Cape Town, via Johannesburg, and spent a few days travelling the region around
the Cape, to the top of Table Mountain, over Boulders Beach, across Noordhoek
Beach, drinking through the vineyards of Stellenbosch and diving with Great White
Sharks. |

The adventure
then flew up to Natal and a long drive through Zulaland to the Sani Valley - a
stunning and unspoilt area, which we discovered on horseback through game and
over rough terrain in 4x4's. A wonderful journey around the area included crossing
the Sani Pass into the country of Lesotho. We then left the stunning lakeside
lodges of Sani Lodge to dive the world famous dive site of Aliwal Shoal. With
little sign of the Ragged Tooth Sharks we drove north for several hours to Amakhosi
Game Reserve where we went like any white hunter in search of the big five. With
only the leopard to escape us we stayed in total luxury and went out with Beardy
Beukes on regular sorties. We returned back to Durban
to be well looked after by Donovan, Tanya and the bump (very) soon to have been
Isabella and with Joe at the controls of the light aircraft we flew down with
the Big Don down the Durban coast to harass some local farmers. We went onto visit
the Valley of a Thousand Hills and soon after began the journey home. An awesome
trip to a wonderful (and cheap at the moment) country, which I'm sure we will
be visiting again soon. So
with thanks to: Dickson, Abdul, Riaan, Marinda, Beukes, Alan, Jilly, Chef, Ramelle,
Peter, Mitzi, John, George & Twinkle, Nkees, David, Numusi, Wilhelm, Neil,
Mike, Christine, John, Daphne, Margaret, Ken, Andy, Luke, Olly, Gavin, Belinda,
Nick, Yvette, Dominique, Tanya, Donovan, Simon, Sushi and of course Isabella
until
next time. | JB |
