Paintballing
2001 In response to various reports of enemy activity
in the Chobham area, the Tonsley events crack Commando unit mobilised early on
Saturday 9th June. Rest assured we had raised a group of soldiers with a wide
array of skills to cover any eventuality. Sure enough
the team could not go to war without a good cup of tea and a bacon sanger, at
least that was certainly the case put forward by Mikey. All arrived at the front
line safely with no casualties, although there was some erratic driving noted
from the Floody's armoured car, but reports have confirmed this was induced by
two of the higher ranking members of the team (Joe and Woolfy) to shake potential
followers off the trail - cunning! The unit struggled
in the early stages of the game, not scoring well against our South African enemy.
Pete's call of "Diplomatic Immunity" failed to restore peace and one
soldier was disappointed when given a weapon as previously he had only used an
iron. Unfortunately one of the team was forced to return home at lunch for family
reasons. We were sorry to see him go, but then we actually realised the benefits
were twofold, a lot more lunch available and a win in every fire-fight to follow
to win the day outright! There was a strong international
flavour in the group with two New Zealand renegades who joined us to learn the
skills the Tonsley Events team are reputed for. However, they were sent home in
disgrace after one of them was reported to have shot the marshal. There was another
controversial incident when one of the team seemed to pick on a girl and fire
at her from point blank range. Insults were exchanged and he rightly backed off
claiming victory. There were few casualties throughout
the day, but one soldier (Al Muir) has been mentioned posthumously for a brave
display of selfless behaviour attracting enemy fire in a dash across the front
line. The
debrief commenced in the Ship and finished in GJ's, great performance by all concerned:
Of the twelve teams present that day, the Tonsley Troop took home the victory. |
