Alpine Soirée 2001

With two out of the three inhabitants of our place failing to take advantage of the superb snow in Europe this winter, there was much excitement when it was decided that the next Tonsley Event was to be a skiing reunion party. As the weeks whizzed by the appropriate props were collected and the invitations distributed.

And so it was that Tonsley Place, the Black run of Wandsworth, was appropriately piste bashed by the collective throng on March 17th. With 75 cubic feet of fake snow having been imported from Leeds, four sets of Kastle skis from Germany and unknown quanitites of cheese from Switzerland, the dust was well and truely removed from our old skiing trip memoirs.

Tanya Bailey achieved the accolade of being named the second Tonsley Totty, while Darty won the best dressed party goer with a costume straight off one of those 1980s US highschool skiing comedy films with sunscreen the colour of which Shane Warne would have been proud and even "iced buns" to bribe the judges.

The mulled wine and (seeing as it was St. Patrick's day) mulled Guinness went down a storm, while the high point of the evening came - and I think went - with a game of Tequila drinking Banzai! For those of you who have
yet to sample the joys of Channel4's latest madcap offering, basically one has to bet on the weird and wonderful in the hope that you avoid the pain of downing Tequila if you lose. Simple, until you start losing.
